Desoto man charged after police chase from Des Moines to Grimes

POLK COUNTY, Iowa- Des Moines police were involved in a chase with the driver of a stolen truck, late this (Tuesday) morning, that started in Des Moines, and ended in Grimes.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parezik tells WHO Radio News the chase started around 11:30 a.m. when officers tried to stop a truck at Bel Aire and Lower Beaver Road.

Police say the driver led officers on a chase that went north and northwest of Des Moines, to Johnston, and near Polk City, and west to Grimes. Police say the suspect, 50-year-old Gregory Hughes of Desoto drove on an off roads and highways and at one point. Police say eventually got out of the vehicle, and tried to run but was taken taken into custody, near Oak Street and 109th Street in Grimes.

Hughes is charged with Theft (stolen truck), Felony Eluding, Driving While Barred, and had an outstanding warrant for Second Degree Theft.
