10 More COVID-19 Cases Among Inmates at Iowa Prison in Coralville

CORALVILLE, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Corrections is reporting 10 new COVID-19/coronavirus cases at the Medical and Classification Center (IMCC) in Coralville, after one prisoner tested positive there last week.

The department says it's been focusing testing on inmates who came from county jails to a quarantine unit at the prison, where the first inmate case was found.

It says tests are expanding in specific areas at the prison, especially for inmates and staff involved in the intake process and quarantine units.

The prison in Coralville has the only COVID-19 cases within the state Corrections Department to date.

The department reports that so far, there have been 69 new tests completed on the inmates in the intake unit, and 4 tests completed on staff in that area. Ten results were positive, while 48 were negative and 11 are still unknown. The department says it's also ordered an additional 150 tests that will be conducted on staff and inmates.

Danny Homan of AFSCME Council 6, the union representing state prison workers, said he's concerned and scared for Correctional Staff all across the State of Iowa.
