Iowa Veterans Home Has Positive Coronavirus Cases

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa - Two residents at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown have tested positive for COVID-19/coronavirus.

The Gazzette reports 70 residents tested negative and two positive cases became known on Friday and Saturday.

The home's Commandant Timon Oujiri said those two residents have been transferred to the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Des Moines where there is an infectious disease team.

AFSCME, the union representing the workers at the Veterans Home has been vocal in criticism of its handling of COVID-19.

“The precautions that management took prior to this incident were a joke,” said AFSCME Iowa Council 61 President Danny Homan.
