Iowa has largest single-day number of COVID-19 deaths

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa has it's largest single-day increase in COIVD-19 coronavirus deaths.

The state Department of Public health says 12 more people have died from COVID-19, bringing the state total to 148 deaths.

The deaths are middle age, older, and elderly adults in Black Hawk, Dubuque, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Muscatine, Polk Pottawattamie, and Washington counties.

Public Health says there are also 467 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the state's total to 6.843 positive tests.

The state says 93 percent of the new cases are in the state's 22 hardest hit counties.

The state says 2,428 people have recovered from the virus, for a 35 percent recovery rate.

Right now, 323 people are hospitalized with the COVID-19 coronavirus.
