ELDON, Iowa- The Wapello County Fair, which was to start June 17th, has been cancelled, out of COVID-19 concerns.
Organizers say those who purchased tickets for shows will be contacted about refunds.
After considerable discussions with the Association of Iowa Fairs (AIF), the International Association of Fairs and Expos (IAFE), Mary Gaskill - Iowa State Representative from the 93rd District, Tim Richmond - Wapello County Emergency Management Coordinator, Jerry Parker - Wapello County Board of Supervisor and Liaison to our Wapello County Fair Board, and the entire Wapello County Board of Supervisors, I asked for input from each of our Wapello County Fair Board Members for your thoughts on wether we should hold our 2020 Wapello County Fair. As of today May 4th, 2020, we have received 27 responses from our board; there is unanimous support of the mandate received from the Wapello County Board of Supervisors from their special meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2020 that our 2020 Wapello County Fair not be held.
We will be contacting everyone involved in our 2020 Wapello County Fair as quickly as possible to let them know of our decision. Additionally, if you have purchased tickets for Chris Janson, Tyler Richton and the High Bank Boys, and Jennifer Handling & The Revolution Band, you will be contacted.
The decision was based upon concerns for the health of the public and all of our volunteers that would be involved in the 2020 fair and upon financial concerns and liabilities that could arise if our 2020 Wapello County Fair were to be held.
I want to thank each of our Wapello County Fair Board members for your overwhelming support in this decision.
