17 New Deaths, 377 Cases on COVID-19 in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Public Health is reporting 377 new cases of COVID-19/coronavirus in the state and 17 additional deaths as of Wednesday.

Positive cases now total 13,289, while the death count has reached 306 statewide. There have been 85,719 COVID-19 tests conducted in Iowa.

There were 4,431 new tests reported, the largest number in a single day so far. But that figure is still short of Governor Reynolds goal of 5,000 per day with the Test Iowa program in place

The 17 new deaths is two short of a daily reported high mark of 19, and one short of Tuesday's report on 18 deaths.

The rate of positive tests is down from about 16 percent to 15.5 percent as of Wednesday. The state reports that 1-in-37 Iowans has been tested and 1-in-236 has tested positive.

There are 388 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa, with 133 patients in ICU. A total of 101 people are on ventilators.

There have been 5,954 COVID-19 recoveries in Iowa. The state's recovery rate is 45 percent.

The positive COVID-19 cases reported by the health department represent diagnosed results, not the state's actual number of cases.
