Hundreds of Motorcyclists Gather in Downtown Des Moines For Crash Victim

DES MOINES, Iowa - Hundreds of motorcyclists rode into downtown Des Moines Saturday afternoon to honor a man who died in a crash last week with an SUV driven by an unlicensed driver.

The gathering for Troy Matice took place at the intersection of West Martin Luther King Parkway and Southwest 7th Street, where Matice's fatal crash occurred Wednesday.

Officers say a Jeep hit Matice on his motorcycle while trying to turn from 7th onto eastbound MLK.  The motorcycle was on southwest 7th crossing M-L-K.

Police says the Jeep's 15-year-old unlicensed driver didn't yield the right-of-way to the motorcycle. Matice was taken to a hospital where he died.

The gathering to honor him was organized by a member of 515 Celebration Ride.

A GoFundMe donation site has been set up for Matice's family to help with expenses. It had raised close to $15,000 as of Sunday.
