Racial Hit and Run Suspect Ruled Competent to Stand Trial

DES MOINES, Iowa - A woman accused of intentionally hitting two kids with her SUV because of their skin color is competent to stand trial.

Court records show a psychiatric evaluation found 42-year-old Nicole Poole competent to stand trial, and a judge has ordered it to proceed.

Poole's charged with two counts of attempted murder after police said she intentionally ran into a Hispanic girl and black boy near Des Moines-area schools in separate hit-and-run crashes last December.

Police also charged Poole for racist slurs made at a West Des Moines convenience store the same day.

After her initial trial was delayed so she could undergo treatment, Poole will appear in court May 28th.

Poole has been in jail since her arrest in December.
