Iowa Data Center tracks state's fastest growing cities

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The state Data Center says Iowa's fastest growing city since 2010 has less than 500 people.

Scott County's Panorama Park, population 319, had more than 147 percent growth.

The Data Center says Iowa's fastest growing city with a population of more than 20,000 people is Waukee, which increased by nearly 75 percent since 2010.

Ankeny has seen Iowa's largest increase in number, growing by nearly 22,000 people since 2010.

Just 43--or 4.6 percent--of Iowa’s 943 incorporated cities have a population of more than 10,000 people, but account for over half--51.7 percent-- of the state's total population

The Data Center says, since 2010, 213 Iowa cities have gained population, 712 have lost population, and 18 have had no change.

These estimates will be last look at Iowa’s population totals before the release of the 2020 Census.
