Iowa Closing in on 18,000 COVID-19 Cases; 460 Deaths

DES MOINES, Iowa - There are 17,628 cases of COVID-19 in Iowa as of early Tuesday morning, along with a total of 460 deaths.

The state reports 133,910 people have been tested for the virus, with 115,979 testing negative. There have been 9,401 recoveries. The COVID-19 recovery rate in Iowa is 53 percent.

There have been outbreaks at 37 long term care centers in the state, including at seven facilities in Polk County, and at five in Linn County. Long term care centers account for 244 deaths, representing 53 percent of the deaths overall.

Polk County has the most COVID-19 case in Iowa with 3,796, and about eight out of every 1,000 people being infected. Louisa County, where a coronavirus outbreak occurred at a Tyson meatpacking plant in April, has the state's highest transmission rate - 30 out of every 1,000 residents.

There are 377 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa, with 118 in ICU. Sixty-six patients are on ventilators.
