Iowa's Living History Farms to Open Monday With COVID-19 Changes

URBANDALE, Iowa - Living History Farms in Urbandale is opening Monday with a few precautions because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Admission is limited to 70 visitors per hour and timed-ticketing will be used to space out visitors and limit crowd sizes.

Staff members and volunteers will be wearing masks, while masks will be available for purchase for visitors.

Living History Farms is celebrating its 50th year as a 500-acre open-air museum.

Hundreds of thousand of people attended a service by Pope John Paul II in 1979 at Living History Farms.

Other changes at Living History Farms:

Tickets can be purchased in-person beginning June 1.

  • The purchase of online tickets will be available beginning in mid-June. Once available, online purchase is recommended to guarantee your preferred tour time and reduce the physical transaction of ticket sales.
  • Members receive free admission but are required to reserve a timed ticket.
  • Visitors will be assigned a touring route to ensure one-way traffic flow and limit the number of visitors to each site at one time.
  • New touring hours: Monday - Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm. The venue is not be open on Sundays this season.
