Des Man Charged for Murder in Death from Last Sunday

DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines Police have charged a man with murder in the death of another man on May 30th.

Twenty-one year-old Des Moines resident Dayquawne Gates faces 1st Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm charges.

Officers say they found video and firearms-related evidence connecting Gates to the death of 19-year-old Robert Freeman, who was found unresponsive in the 1400 block of Dean Avenue last Sunday morning. Freeman was transported to MercyOne Medical Center, where he died.

Gates was booked into the Polk County Jail early Saturday morning on a $1 million cash bond.
