Vandals Strike Kinnick Stadium and University Hospital in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Police are investigating vandalism at Kinnick Stadium and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. protesters marched through Iowa City Saturday night.

Officials say the vandalism happened after 9 p.m. in the plaza outside the south end zone at the stadium. Vandals also tagged the Nile Kinnick statue with graffiti.

Lonny Pulkrabek, Johnson County Sheriff, posted a picture to Facebook of a group spray painting the statue of Nile Kinnick. He also said they vandalized the University of Iowa Hospital.

KCRG-TV reports some of the vandalism singled out football strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle, who was put on administrative leave Saturday after claims of racism by former Hawkeye players.

Former Hawkeye football player Carl Davis tweeted that he and former teammate Jaleel Johnson were going to Iowa City to help clean up the damage.

Democratic State Senator Zach Wahls of Coralville tweeted Sunday morning that fans should be more upset about the experiences of black Hawkeyes than the spray paint at Kinnick Stadium.ty
