DES MOINES, Iowa - The state is reporting 331 new cases of COVID-19, along with nine additional deaths as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
A total of 638 people in Iowa have died from the virus and 22,785 have tested positive out of 207,057 tests overall.
The state reports 4,404 people were tested Monday. A high mark of nearly 7,000 people were tested last Thursday. Governor Kim Reynolds has set a goal of 5,000 tests per day between the TestIowa program and the state hygienic lab. One in 16 Iowans have been tested for the virus.
Buena Vista County continues to show the biggest concentration of COVID-19 cases based on population, and that number continues to rapidly grow.
Buena Vista County now has 6,893 cases per 100,000 residents. By comparison, Crawford County has the second highest concentration per 100,000 - 3,427. Polk, the largest population county in the state, has 1,013 cases per 100,000. Overall cases have been on the rise in Polk County, which is nearing 5,000, with a total of 4,933.
The state has conducted 24,290 Serology tests to find anti-bodies in people who have contracted and recovered for COVID-19. There have been 2,046 positive Serology tests, accounting for 8 percent of those tests.
There have been 13,806 recoveries from the virus for a recovery rate of 60 percent.
The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 36 long term care centers, a drop from 38 Wednesday. The total may not include an outbreak reported Thursday morning at Willow Gardens Care Center in Linn County, where 11 long tern care centers total 312, accounting for 49 percent of the state's deaths.
Overall, COVID-19 case counts have flattened since early May, and are slowly tapering off for the past month.
The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Unreported cases and deaths could make the actual figures different.
