2 Dead, 2 Injured in Early Morning 'Volley' of Gunfire in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE, Iowa - Two people are dead and two others injured after an early morning shooting in Fort Dodge.

The Fort Dodge Police Department said a shooting was reported around 4:45 this morning in the 900-block of 10th Avenue Southwest.

Police said several shots were fired and multiple people had been injured.

Investigators say at least two people were shooting at each other in a "volley of shots" in the area although its not clear if the others injured were involved or bystanders.

In total, four people were struck by gunfire. A 25-year-old man and 47-year-old man are deceased. A 21-year-old woman is in stable condition and a 30-year-old woman was treated and released this morning.

Fort Dodge Police say they first located one unresponsive man lying in a roadway. Officers began life‐saving efforts on the man before medics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The two injured woman were found nearby.

A short time later, police found a single‐vehicle accident, where it was discovered that the male driver was suffering from a gunshot wound while driving. He was also pronounced dead at the scene after medical efforts failed.

An investigation is ongoing.
