Des Moines Woman Charged with Animal Neglect After 2 Dogs Found Emaciated

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Des Moines woman is charged with animal neglect after two emaciated dogs were taken from her home.

Fifty-four year-old Lorna Danley was arrested Thursday on two 2 counts of animal neglect and was taken to the Polk County Jail. Danley was also cited for multiple other animal ordinance violations.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa says its Animal Services joined the Des Moines Police Department in bringing the case to an arrest. The league says the two dogs, Duke and Mariah, are recovering.

The Iowa Legislature passed a measure to strengthen animal cruelty laws during the final two days of its recently concluded session. The Iowa Senate approved a House bill by a 44-4 margin, which sent the bill to Governor Kim Reynolds.
