UPDATE: Elevated chance for strong storms in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The latest forecast gives Iowa an elevated chance for strong storms on Friday and could include severe weather.

The National Weather Service says the first round of strong storms across Iowa on Friday morning are bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

But the second round of storms on Friday afternoon and evening will re-strengthen with the higher risk for severe weather in eastern Iowa.

Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats, but a tornado can't be ruled out.

Locally heavy rain is possible in thunderstorms which could cause flooding--especially in areas that got heavy rain earlier this week.
