Governor Reynolds Signs Medical Marijuana Bill

DES MOINES, Iowa - A measure to change the cap on THC in Iowa's medical marijuana program is now law.

Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a bill replacing the state's 3 percent limit with a cap of 4.5 grams per patient every 90 days.

The new law allows less potency than a bill Reynolds vetoed last year that capped THC, the key chemical in marijuana, at 25 grams over a 90 day period.

The new law also adds severe autism and PTSD to the list of conditions that qualify for the medical marijuana program.

Some supporters of medical marijuana, including the state's only medical marijuana manufacturer, think the new cap on THC is too low.

Smoking marijuana remains illegal in Iowa. The state's medical marijuana program allows for capsules, extracts, concentrates, lotions and ointments.

Reynolds' office announced a list of 15 bills she signed Monday in a news release.
