2 New COVID-19 Deaths in Iowa, Among The Lowest Daily Totals

DES MOINES, Iowa - There are two new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 543 additional positive cases of the virus as of Sunday at 10 a.m.

There are 45,480 total cases, as 5,328 tests were conducted Saturday. The positive test rate is currently 8.1 percent, which has been rising somewhat in recent weeks.

There have been a total of 874 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

A total of 485,828 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-seven Iowans has been tested.

There have been 32,917 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 22 long term care centers Friday, equal to the previous day. Long term care outbreaks have started to climb recently after sharply dropping from as much as 36 earlier this year. There have been 472 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.

There are 231 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 75 ICU patients with 36 on ventilators.
