Ames Craft Brewer Joins National Effort For Racial Equality

AMES, Iowa - A craft brewer in Ames is part of a national effort to raise awareness of racial inequality and raise money for groups that work toward equality.

Alluvial Brewing Company has a beer named Black is Beautiful, which was started by a craft brewer in San Antonio, Marcus Baskerville, co-owner and brewer for Weathered Souls.

Baskerville says he wanted brewers to make a change for justice in their own communities following the death of George Floyd.

Brewers who've joined the effort are asked to donate 100 percent of proceeds to local foundations supporting police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged.

They're also directed to choose their own entity to donate to local organizations that support equality and inclusion Commit to the long-term work of equality.

Alluvial Brewing in Ames is one of more than 700 brewers around the country with a Black is Beautiful flavor.

It's donating 100 percent of the sales to the Des Moines Bailout Fund and Ames Black Lives Matter.
