Crowds Expected For This Weekend's Tax Free Holiday in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa statewide tax-free holiday is happening Friday, and continues through Saturday, and longer lines are expected because of COVID-19 social distancing.

Items with no state sales tax this weekend include clothes and shoes under $100.

The exemption applies to each article priced under $100.00 regardless of how many items are sold on the same invoice to a customer

The long list of items not included in the 6 percent tax exemption include watches, watchbands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, sporting equipment, skis, swim fins, roller blades, skates, and any special clothing or footwear designed primarily for athletic activity or protective use and not usually considered appropriate for everyday wear.

The statewide tax-free holiday ends Saturday night, and does not extend through Sunday.
