Man Charged With 1st Degree Murder After Body Found in Iowa Lake

PALO ALTO COUNTY, Iowa - A man is charged with first degree murder in connection to a body that was found in a northwest Iowa lake in July.

Twenty-nine year-old Allan Schwidder of Emmetsburg was arrested Saturday night in Lake Park for the murder of 27 year old Rollin Bontrager of Washington, Iowa.

Bontrager was pulled from Virgin Lake on July 22nd after a person passing by reported a possible body in the water.

Palo Alto County deputies say they seized several items after getting a search warrant for two residences in Emmetsburg on July 31st.

Schwidder is in jail on a $1 million cash only bond, and is awaiting his first appearance before a judge.

An investigation continues into Bontrager's death. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office at 712-852-3535. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations is assisting with the investigation.
