University of Iowa Projects $100 Million Loss After Football Cancellation

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Iowa stands to lose $100 million after the cancellation of the Big Ten Conference football season.

Athletic Director Gary Barta sent a letter to Hawkeye season ticket holders with the grim news, while offering refunds.

Barta said it would be difficult to find solutions to the budget shortfall in the athletic department of $60 million and $75 million from football's cancellation. He noted many businesses that rely on Hawkeye events for their livelihood would also be harmed.

The letter said the Big Ten and the school's athletic department would be working to preserve the winter and spring sports seasons, and would be exploring ways to conduct a spring season for fall sports.

Barta said the August 14th cutoff date for refunds to football season tickets and per seat contributions was no longer valid. Anyone seeking refunds is being asked to send an email to tickets@hawkeyesports.com .

Those who choose to keep their investment with the school will have it applied to the 2021 season. Season Ticket priority and seat locations are guaranteed for the next year.
