American Airlines Suspending Service At Two Iowa Airports

American Airlines will stop flying to 15 small airports for at least a month beginning in October, including Dubuque and Sioux City.

American Airlines said in a statement that the decision was a result of low demand and because federal aid will run out in October. The suspension of service will run from Oct. 7 through November 3.

The airline says it will continue to re-assess plans as an extension of the Payroll Support Program remains under deliberation.

American is currently the only carrier offering scheduled service to nine of the airports, including Dubuque. The Springfield, Illinois airport is also on the list.
