Ankeny Gives 1st Approval For Tall Sign At Proposed Casey's Travel Center

ANKENY, Iowa - A $10 million travel center off I-35 in Ankeny is closer to moving forward after the City Council has given initial approval to a 67-foot-tall pylon sign.

Casey’s General Store, which is headquartered in Ankeny, wants to build the travel center in the Corporate Woods Business Park.

The center would include a 7,770-square-foot convenience store, fuel stations and more than 40 parking spaces for semitrailer trucks.

The Ankeny City Council will consider the project again on September 8th, which calls for a sign three times higher than the city's current 18 foot limit.

The city council gave initial approval for the sign Monday in a first reading. Three readings are required to finalize council approval, although Casey's has asked for a waiver of the third reading.

Construction of the travel center could begin this fall if approval of the sign is given.
