Des Moines' Annual "Back 2 School Bash" Will Look Different This Year

DES MOINES, Iowa - 15 years ago, a group of Drake University students had the idea to create a "Back 2 School Bash" to connect the university with the community. Since then it's become an annual event, but this year will be a little different than years past.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's edition of the Back 2 School Bash will be held as a drive-thru event. Volunteers and event organizers will be handing out 2,000 bags filled with school supplies for K through 12th Grade students, including personal protective equipment. Technology giveaways will also be conducted at each site.

The event will be held on Sunday, August 23rd from 2pm-4pm at five locations across the Des Moines metro. The five sites include:

Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families - Back 2 School Iowa

Evelyn K. Davis Park - B. Well Foundation

Eddie Davis Center - Hip Hope, Inc.

King Park - Mother’s Against Violence

Union Park - Project H.O.P.E.

Information on how to donate can be found at the event's website.
