Iowa State Patrol Still Dealing With Excessive Speeders

MASON CITY, Iowa - The Iowa State Patrol is still dealing with excessive speeding, even though traffic has been returning to pre-COVID-19 levels.

A trooper in Northern Iowa recently stopped two different vehicles driving at what the Patrol calls "egregious speeds" - 133 and 135.

A social media post by the State Patrol is drawing attention to an especially high number of traffic deaths over the past week - 7, and the entire month of August - 37.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 196 lives have been lost in traffic deaths on 2020, exactly the same number for the same date in 2019.

Traffic deaths in the state had fallen to historic lows earlier this year when highway traffic precipitously dropped during the height of the cornavirus outbreak.
