IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa City Schools will begin classes with online-only learning after the state granted the district a waiver to do so.

Classes will begin on September 8th, but all instruction will be virtual for a two-week period.

Department of Education director Ann Lebo said the decision to grant a waiver was based on an increased COVID-19 positivity rate in Johnson County.

Extracurricular activities are also being suspended for two weeks because of the waiver
