Hawkeye Athletics Department Suspends Workouts due to COVID-19 Spike

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Athletes and staff at the University of Iowa will not be participating in practices and workouts this week.

The University of Iowa Athletics department made the announcement today and confirmed that workouts will be suspended due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Workouts will resume after September 7th.

The athletic department reported 93 positive cases of COVID-19 among athletes, staff, and coaches during the last week. A total of 176 people involved with the department have tested positive since athletics resumed in late May.

Those who have tested positive will be required to follow isolation protocols, and the athletics department says its staff will conduct contact tracing to identify other potential exposures.
