Hundreds Protest High School Sports Cancellation due to Online Learning

DES MOINES, Iowa - Hundreds of students, parents, and coaches participated in a "March for Fairness" Monday protesting the state's suspension of in-person sports and activities at schools holding classes exclusively online.

The march began at Roosevelt High School around 10am and ended at Terrace Hill. Those marching were primarily members of the Des Moines Public School district.

The Des Moines Public School District will start the school year exclusively online Tuesday.

The state Department of Education told districts in August that those districts choosing to start the school year exclusively online would not be allowed to participate in sports and other activities.
