City of Des Moines to Take Over Former Dico Site South of Downtown

DES MOINES, Iowa - The City of Des Moines will take control of a 43-acre property south of downtown.

The city council will vote Monday on an agreement to transfer ownership of the former Dico factory site to the city. The US Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency brokered the deal between the City of Des Moines and the property's current owner, Titan Tire Corporation.

The property was declared a Superfund site in the 1980s for high levels of ground pollution. It was formerly the site of a manufacturing facility that produced metal wheels, herbicides, and pesticides.

The City of Des Moines is planning to remove buildings and a remediation pond and install an improved groundwater treatment system.
