One dead, one wounded in Des Moines shooting police call self-defense

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A robbery suspect is dead and another's in the hospital after an early morning shooting Monday on Des Moines' near-north side.

Des Moines Police say the robbery victim won't be charged as it appears to be a case of self-defense.

Police say it happened in the 1400 block of 13th Street shortly before 6:00 a.m.

The victim told police he was approached by two armed men who demanded he empty his pockets.

Police say the man, who has a concealed weapons permit, drew a gun and shot both suspects.

Police say after consulting with the Polk County Attorney’s Office, no charges will be filed against the robbery victim.

Names of the robbery victim and the people shot have not been released.
