West Des Moines woman charged with keeping kids in filthy conditions

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A West Des Moines woman faces charges after police say her children were found living in unhealthy conditions.

Tammy Vanlandingham, 46, is charged with three counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.

Police say she forced her three children to live in what they call “horrific and unsanitary conditions”, that she didn’t feed them properly, and abused them.

The criminal complaint says a search warrant “revealed horrific and unsanitary conditions to include the residence being covered in cat feces and urine, to include the children’s bedrooms.”

Police say Vanlandingham admitted the conditions have been consistent for an extended period of time--going back as far as October of 2017.
