Polk County Getting $25 Million Federal Grant for Road, Bike Trail Upgrades

POLK COUNTY, Iowa - Polk County is getting $25 million in federal money to make road upgrades and add new paved bike trails.

The project will widen and improve Broadway Avenue, which is just below the north mix-master.

It will also provide a direct connection to the Central Iowa Trails System, and add a paved multi-use bike trail.In addition, the new infrastructure will improve access to transit services.

The money is being provided as part of a $1 billion nationwide investment from the Trump administration’s BUILD (Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development) program.

The federal funding will pay for more than half of the project which totals about $40 million.

Broadway Avenue will be widened from two to three lanes.
