Accidental Release of Inmate Prompts Internal Investigation in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Iowa – The Polk County Sheriff's Office says it's conducting an internal investigation into the mistaken release of a man who had recently been convicted of multiple charges.

Police say 28 year-old Ceeron Williams was convicted of shooting a man five times at close range outside a Des Moines gas station.

Williams received his sentence on Friday and was being transferred to the Polk County Jail when, according to WHO TV13, confusion over the judicial order led Polk County Jail staff to release him. Williams remained at-large over the weekend before being taken into custody again on Monday.

Authorities have not released a timeline regarding when the internal investigation will be complete.
