Man Accused of Killing Fort Dodge Pastor to Use Insanity Defense

FORT DODGE, Iowa - The attorney for the man accused of killing a Fort Dodge pastor last year says they'll use an insanity defense in his 1st degree murder trial.

Joshua Pendleton is charged with killing Pastor Allen Henderson outside St. Paul Lutheran Church. Henderson was a longtime chaplain of Webster County public safety agencies and first responders.

In January, Pendleton's trial was suspended when the court found him mentally incompetent to stand trial. His competency was restored in June after treatment, but the COVID-19 pandemic had shut down jury trials by that time.

A trial has not yet been scheduled for Pendleton. He will face trial in Scott County after a judge granted a July request for a change of venue.
