(Ankeny, IA) -- Six Iowa businesses are facing fines and other penalties, after COVID-19 complaints. The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division says complaint hearings are filed for two bars in West Des Moines, and bars in Iowa City, Council Bluffs, and Waterloo. A Lodge in Waterloo also has a hearing planned, because it was open when it was supposed to be closed. They're accused of failing ensure at least six feet of physical distance between groups or individuals. Establishments violating the governor’s proclamation risk a fine, suspension, or loss of license.
Bo-James in Iowa City: On or about August 28, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 27 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by: failing to ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking alone; failing to ensure that all customers who were served alcoholic beverages were also served food; and/or failing to ensure that all patrons were seated at a table, booth or bar while consuming their food and beverages.
Cube Ultra Lounge in Council Bluffs: On or about September 4, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 21 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by: failing to ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking alone; and/or, failing to ensure that all patrons had a seat at a table or bar.
Xcaret Club and Lounge in West Des Moines: On or about August 22, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 21 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by: failing to ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking alone; and/or, failing to ensure that all patrons had a seat at a table or bar.
Shotgun Betty’s in West Des Moines: On or about August 22, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 21 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by: failing to ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking alone; and/or, failing to ensure that all patrons had a seat at a table or bar.
Knights of Pythias - Furgerson Lodge #5 in Waterloo: On or about September 9, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 27 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by opening the business to the general public.
Edo’s Sports Bar in Waterloo: On or about September 11, the licensee failed to comply with the Governor’s August 27 Proclamation of Disaster Emergency by: failing to ensure at least six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking alone; failing to ensure that all customers who were served alcoholic beverages were also served food; and/or failing to ensure that all patrons were seated at a table, booth or bar while consuming their food and beverages.
