Drake University Urging Student Safety After Greek House COVID-19 Spike

DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake University is asking students to follow its rules after it traced a high number of COVID-19 cases to off-campus parties.

The school says a large number of the students in isolation and quarantine are Greek house residents.

In its weekly report, the University said the behavior undermines safety efforts and threatens the continuation of in-person classes.

It further said the behavior violates the Drake Together Compact and is subject to disciplinary action under the Code of Student Conduct.

There are 278 Drake students currently in isolation or quarantine.

The weekly report asks student to be diligent, saying the growth in cases and contacts for off-campus students is troubling.

"As has been said before, whether you live on or off campus, it is critical that we all wear masks, social distance, and practice good hygiene," the report said.
