Iowans getting flags to honor those who've died in service

(Undated) -- Iowans who have lost a family member while serving in the military are getting special flags to fly in honor of their loved ones. More than 750 flags will go to those in the Iowa Survivor Network. The program is part of the Gold Star Family Remembrance Week, this week.

The effort is supported by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms.

Volunteers from Iowa State University’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and Senator Joni Ernst (subject to Senate schedule) will join employees of Iowa Select Farms and the Survivor Outreach Services to assemble the packages for delivery. Senator Ernst was a cosponsor of the resolution that recognized Gold Star Families Remembrance Week.

Senator Ernst will be joined by U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) tomorrow (Friday) to package the flags.

The senators will then visit with leaders at Urban Dreams, a Paycheck Protection Program recipient in Des Moines, to discuss the importance of supporting minority-owned small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
