Two People Connected to University of Iowa on Biden Transition Team

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Two people with ties to the University of Iowa are part of President-elect Joe Biden's transition team.

Iowa College of Law Dean Kevin Washburn is the team leader for the group assigned to the Interior Department

Former UI President and faculty member David Skorton is part of Biden's transition team on the Arts and Humanities.

Some members of the transition team could be considered for Biden's Cabinet.

Washburn has a in the federal government during the Obama administration. He was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs. He served that role until January 2016.

Skorton has been president and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges since July, 2019. He became an instructor at the University of Iowa in 19080, and became an assistant professor in internal medicine, and in 1982 he became an assistant professor in electrical and computer engineering. He became the University's president in 2003 and held the position until 2006.
