93 Year-Old Des Moines Woman Outwits Home Invader

DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines Police say a 93 year-old woman managed to escape a home invasion.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek tells WHO Radio News the woman convinced the invader not to tie her up, after which the suspect barricaded her in her room. The woman then lowered herself into her basement through a laundry chute, where she was able to get to a phone and call 9-1-1, despite sustaining serious injuries.

Parizek says the suspect fled before police arrived, but they have forensic evidence that they're hoping will lead to the suspect's identity.

Police say the invasion happened in the Lower Beaver neighborhood on the morning of Wednesday, November 11th.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Des Moines Police.
