2020 Election Sets Voter Turnout Records in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - Voter turnout in 2020 sets new records in Iowa.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says over 1.7 million people voted in 2020, topping the previous record of just under 1.6 million in 2012. Pate says nearly 76% of all Iowans cast a ballot in 2020, which is one of the highest voter turnout rates anywhere in the country. The continuing COVID-19 pandemic caused nearly 59% of Iowans, over 1 million, to cast an absentee ballot.

Every county in Iowa had at least 65% of its residents turn out to vote.
