Biden Considering Outgoing Iowa Congresswoman Finkenauer for Labor Sec.

WASHINGTON, DC - Outgoing Iowa Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer is a contender to become President-elect Joe Biden’s Labor Secretary.

Reuters reports Finkenauer, who is one of the youngest members of Congress at age 31, is one of five candidates Biden is considering for the post.

Finkenhauer was elected in Iowa's 1st District in 2018, but lost her seat to Ashley Hinson in last month's election.

Reuters reports three unnamed people familiar with the selection process confirmed Biden is considering Finkenhauer for Labor Secretary, as well as other positions in his administration. A Biden spokesperson has declined to comment.

Biden campaigned for Finkenhauer in 2018, and she endorsed him for president back in January. According to Reuters, Finkenhauer first met Biden in 2007.

Labor Secretary is a cabinet position that would require confirmation from the U.S. Senate. The position oversees workplace laws and practices that impact employees and unions.

Finkenhauer Monday night tweeted harsh criticism at Tyson Foods, which faces a lawsuit charging the company with mistreatment of workers during a COVID-19 outbreak at its Waterloo plant, which is inside the congressional 1st District.

Finkenhauer has made workers' right a central piece of her platform as a lawmaker.

President Trump's current Labor Secretary is Eugene Scalia.
