Former University of Iowa Provost to Lead Texas School

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Former University of Iowa Provost will be the new president of a private Catholic college in Austin, Texas.

Montse Fuentes is moving to St. Edwards University after unexpectedly stepping down one year after becoming Provost at Iowa.

The Gazette reports Fuentes will remain a UI “special assistant” earning vice-president-level pay under a deal she signed with Iowa’s Board of Regents.

She currently makes $439,000 a year.

A news release from St. Edwards announced Fuentes as a native of Spain, who "will be the first Hispanic president to lead St. Edward’s, representing a significant milestone for the university, which is a Hispanic-Serving Institution."

It said Fuentes has "an unsurpassed commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion."
