Iowa's First Electric Busses En Route in Des Moines

DART Electric Bus

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa's first electric busses are officially in service.

In a news release this morning, Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, or DART, announced seven fully electric, zero emission busses are rolling around the University/Ingersoll Avenue loop starting today.

DART is testing the busses in part of a 12-month pilot program with MidAmerican Energy.

DART says the new electric busses are quieter, more efficient, and have lower operating costs compared to diesel-run busses.
