Iowa DOT crews switch to phase two of snow clean-up

(Ames, IA) -- Iowa Department of Transportation snow plow crews have switched to a second phase of clean-up after Tuesday's big snow storm. The D-O-T's Craig Bargfrede says drivers are focusing on some remaining trouble spots and clearing snow from shoulders. He says that will allow for more capacity for snow in future snow events.

The D-O-T is watching the next storm, due to arrive in Iowa this Friday, New Year's Day. Forecasters say the system from the south could pack a mixture of snow, rain, and freezing rain. Ice build-up is also possible in eastern and southeast Iowa.

The latest D-O-T map shows most of Iowa's roads are now either in seasonal condition, or partially snow-covered.

Bargfrede says during the height of the storm, they had more than 820-snow plow drivers working to clear highways.
