Election Process Underway for Miller-Meeks Former Iowa State Senate Seat

OTTUMWA, Iowa - Candidate filings are underway to fill the southeastern Iowa state senate seat vacated by Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Miller-Meeks resigned the post to be sworn-in to represent Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District Sunday.

A special election for the seat takes place in just under three weeks (January 26th), with Republicans and Democrats selecting their nominees at special conventions beforehand.

Republicans hold strong majorities in the state legislature.

Iowa’s 41st district includes Davis, Van Buren, Jefferson and Wapello counties.

Voters have until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15 to request an absentee ballot by mail. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Jan. 25, 2021.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Election Day.
