Iowa University Professors Sign Letter Calling for President's Removal

IOWA – At least 12 professors at Iowa’s three state universities are calling for President Trump’s administration to remove him from office.

The 12 political science professors signed a letter asking Vice President Mike Pence and cabinet members to remove the president through impeachment or by invoking the 25th Amendment.

The 25th Amendment calls for the Vice President to take over if the President is unable to do his job.

The open letter says the President’s actions threaten democracy, and was signed by political scientists from the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa.

The letter further says President Trump has rejected the peaceful transfer of power. Trump issued a statement early Thursday, after Congress affirmed the Electoral College votes, saying there would be a smooth transition. "My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power,” said President Trump in the statement.
