Iowa National Guard Sending 250 Troops to Washington

IOWA - The Iowa National Guard is now sending 250 troops to Washington DC to help with security for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week.

Only 15 guard members were originally scheduled to go, but the state agreed to massively boost the number after last week's riots at the U.S. Capitol.

The Iowa guard troops are expected to arrive in Washington Saturday or Sunday.

No troops are scheduled to help with security at the Iowa Capitol.

Iowa National Guard Major General Ben Corell said he a Governor Kim Reynolds consulted before agreeing to the deployment to Washington.
