The jackpot winner will have the option of accepting the estimated annuity of $1 Billion, which will be paid in 30 annual installments, or a lump sum payment of $776.6 million, both of which are before taxes.
Mega Millions also reported two eight "Match 5" winners in six states: Florida (2), Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York (2) and Pennsylvania. Two "Match 5" winners in North Carolina and Virginia also doubled their money by opting for the Megaplier option.
The Mega Millions jackpot has exceeded the billion mark twice in its existence and Friday's jackpot was the second largest jackpot in the game's history.

The Mega Millions and Powerball games offered a combined jackpot of more than $1 billion this week. Powerball's jackpot reached $731.1 million, with a cash option worth $546.8 million on Wednesday (January 20) night, before a player in Maryland matched all six numbers.
The Powerball jackpot has exceeded the half a billion mark nine times during its existence. Wednesday's jackpot was the third largest jackpot in the game's history.
Three tickets in California, Florida and Tennessee won the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot in January 2016, which set the record for the world's largest jackpot (cash value and annuity) and was the ninth largest cash value per ticket.
